In 1913, it was renamed Baldwin Park after Elias J. “Lucky” Baldwin, who had donated the land for public use. The city’s name comes from an Elias J.”Lucky” Baldwin nickname given to him by his friends while they were playing cards together in Las Vegas (1880-1931).
